Ambu Bag

An Ambu Bag, also known as a Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM), is a medical apparatus used to provide positive pressure ventilation to individuals who are not breathing or are having difficulty breathing. It is commonly used in emergency situations, such as cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, or trauma, to deliver oxygen to the lungs. The Ambu bag is essential in life-saving procedures, especially in pre-hospital settings or during transport when more advanced respiratory support is unavailable.

Key Features of an Ambu Bag
Self-Expanding Bag : The Ambu bag features a soft, flexible bag that expands when air is squeezed into it and contracts when the pressure is released.

Valve Mechanism : The bag is connected to a one-way valve, which directs air into the patient's lungs while preventing air from flowing back into the bag. This ensures that the patient is ventilated effectively.

Mask : The bag typically includes a facial mask that fits over the patient's nose and mouth to ensure proper sealing for ventilation. The mask can be made of rubber or silicone, with different sizes to fit various ages and face shapes (adult, pediatric, or infant).

Oxygen Supply Port : Many Ambu bags include an oxygen inlet port, allowing oxygen to be delivered to the patient during ventilation, which is especially useful in cases of respiratory distress or for providing supplemental oxygen.

Ventilation Valve : The device has a ventilation valve to allow the caregiver to provide consistent airflow into the patient’s lungs. The amount of air delivered can be adjusted by squeezing the bag more or less forcefully.

Safety Features : Some models come with pressure relief valves to avoid over-inflating the lungs or causing damage during ventilation.

Portable and Compact : Ambu bags are designed to be easily carried and used by healthcare providers in emergency situations. They can be found in ambulances, emergency rooms, and other first-aid kits.
